'Romantic Female Soldier' Chief Of Army Staff Orders Release After 11 days In Detention.

Nigeria Army releases female soldier detained over corps member propose

Nigeria Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya has ordered immediate release of a detained female soldier, Pte. Hannah Sofiat A alleged on ' accepting marriage proposal while on duty'.

Recall that Sofiat was held on December 14, 2021 after photos and videos went viral on social media showing her with a posture   'Romancing on uniform with a male corp after accepting marriage proposal' at the Mammy market of the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Kwara State.

Sofiat had accepted a marriage proposal from a male corps member at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Kwara.

"Sofia soldier has been arrested in Nigeria for accepting a marriage proposal while on duty, 'an army spokesman has said.

The Nigeria army said that Sofiat  had breached the military's code of conduct by "indulging in romance while in uniform".

Contrary to the decision of the Nigeria army , over ten thousand people have signed petition witthin few days demanding for the release of the Romancing soldier.

A woman's rights group also accused the military of discriminating against her.

We gathered from the cable news that a reliable source at Army Headquarters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday that the COAS took the decision in the spirit of Christmas.

The source said that the female soldier had been warned and reprimanded for breaching the extant rule guiding the conduct of military personnel.

He said that the soldier had been forgiven and freed from detention to join her family and friends to celebrate Christmas.

According to the source, this is inline with the COAS vision to have a Professional Nigerian Army Ready to Accomplish Assigned Missions within a Joint Environment in Defence of Nigeria.

Sofiat had earlier been detained for violating military rules and regulations by getting involved in a public display of an amorous relationship with a paramilitary trainee – a corps member.

She was detained after video clips where she was seen accepting a marriage proposal from a male corps member at the NYSC orientation camp in Kwara, went viral on social media.
Several groups and individuals have been urging the Nigerian Army authority to release the female soldiers.

Meanwhile, reactions from Nigerians after the order of sofia's release by the chief  of army's staff applauds the listening ears of the Nigeria army for pardoning the female soldier.
